I grew up in Des Plaines, Illinois right next to O’Hare airport. I have lived in other northern suburbs as well until I moved to Honolulu, Hawaii in 2008. It had been a dream of mine to move to Hawaii for a long time and I finally made it here. My brother Jim has lived here much longer and I was very happy realizing my dream with my brother close by.
I had been a slow marathon runner for 8 years before moving to Hawaii I started training with Boca Hawaii. Boca is a triathlon training group and store. I then started training with a coach and group for the first time. I lost weight, became a faster runner, learned to swim better (still not fast though) and started cycling and started doing triathlons.
I have done 4 Ironman races and more 70.3 Ironman races. I didn’t really know anything about triathlons before I moved to Hawaii but finding the triathlon community and coaches is one of the best things that has happened to me. I love that the weather here allows me to swim, run and bike all year outside. I can’t imagine ever living anywhere else.
